Tax (VAT) Information

19% Value Added Tax (VAT) on commission and expenses (not on the hammer price) will be invoiced to all domestic buyers and all buyers from EU countries without an EU VAT ID number.

Supplies to non-EU countries are exempt from VAT on commission and expenses upon presentation of proof of export stating the total invoice amount.

Supplies to customers in other EU member states holding a valid EU VAT ID number are subject to the reverse charge procedure. This means that German VAT does not apply to commission and expenses. The buyer is responsible for declaring the VAT in their home country.

Meaning of the Circle (°) and Dot (•)

For lots marked with a circle (°) next to the lot number, an additional 7% VAT on the hammer price will be charged. This charge does not apply to dealers within the European Union (outside Germany) who hold a valid EU VAT ID number.

This VAT also does not apply to buyers outside the European Union, provided that the export of the goods can be documented, including the total invoice amount.

For lots marked with a dot (•) next to the lot number, 7% import charges (non-deductible) on the hammer price will be charged to ALL buyers, regardless of whether they are located in Germany, another EU country, or outside the European Union.

Important Information

Lots without a circle (°) can normally be resold under the margin scheme. This generally also applies to lots marked with a dot (•).

VAT charged on commission and expenses may, in certain cases, be recoverable from the German tax authorities. For binding information, please consult your tax advisor.
