USA: 1871, Lettersheet with 10 c. brown from "NEW YORK FEB 24" to St. Croix with frontside arrival mark "ST: THOMAS 28/2 1871" and charged "4" cents local postage, very fine

ANTIGUA - UNITED STATES: 1862, Small envelope with clear crowned circle "PAID AT ANTIGUA" and adjacent "ANTIGUA OC 11 62" to NEW YORK, transported via "ST.-THOMAS OC 14 1862" and in closed mail to Halifax and finally to New York, here marked with "STEAMSHIP 10" and "ADVERTISED 1 CENT"; very fine and scarce

ANTIGUA - UNITED STATES: 1877, Envelope franked with 1863/67, 1 d. vermilion, horizontal strip of 5, tied by "A02" from "ANTIGUA FE 27 77" via "ST.-THOMAS MR 4 77" to New York and here charged 5 c. inland fee. The perforation of the strip partly squeezed when applied and the right stamp scissors' cut at right by opening, otherwise fine. The only recorded letter from Antigua via St. Thomas to the US (SG 7)

THOMAS JU 13 1862", Havana and New York with frontside "STEAMSHIP 10", in Canada charged with "CTS 15"; 8 c. with pulled perf roughly repaired, still fine and attractive (SG 30, 35)

CHILE TO GERMANY: 1858, Letter (side flaps missing) from "SANTIAGO 31 ABRIL", franked with 1857, 5 c. dull reddish-brown with good to enormous margins, tied by red cancel, addressed to Borken, Hessen-Homburg, Germany, carried via Panama and Colon, from here on May 24 per "Clyde" to St. Thomas and from here on June 1st per "Atrato" to Southampton, in Germany red "SEEBRIEF PER ENGLAND UND AACHEN 15/6" applied and charged with a total of "27¼" silbergroschen incl. delivery fee; a fine entire with scarce destination, sign. COLOMBIA - BREMEN: 1866, Double rate envelope with return address of Caldera, Chile, franked with GB 6 d. lilac, pl. 5, block of 3, pair and single, tied by "C35" with adjacent "PANAMA / NO 3 1866 / TRANSIT" and taxed "3 d" for late fee, to Bremen, transported by closed mail via Colon and St. Thomas to London and from here to Bremen with arrival mark of December 3; reverse flap missing, otherwise fine, a scarce and attractive multiple franking (SG Z90) Provenance: Yates coll. COLUMBIA - MEXICO: 1877, GB 4 d. vermilion, pl. 15, horizontal pair tied by "C35" with adjacent "PANAMA MY 5 77" via "ST. THOMAS MY 15" to Jalapa, on front handstamp "35 cs." (due for inland postage); one stamp light corner crease and the entire somewhat roughly on reverse with small part misstin, still fine and scarce (SG Z86)

COLUMBIA - PRUSSIA: 1866, Cover franked with GB 1 d. red, plate 88, in vertical pair, one stamp applied damaged, and 9 d. straw in horizontal strip of 3 (left stamp straight edge), cancelled "C53" with adjacent "PANAMA 20 NO 1866 / TRANSIT" addressed to Berlin, additionally franked with unused Chile 1861/62, 10 c. blue, uncancelled, most likely for an originally planned dispatch from Chile. The cover sent by closed mail via Colon, St. Thomas and London (arrival mark of December 16) and further to Prussia. An attractive cover with a very scarce franking, sign. Holcombe with certificate (1991) (SG Z72, 99)

COLOMBIA - UNITED STATES: 1851, "PAID AT SANTA MARTHA", clear crowned circle on lettersheet via "ST-THOMAS OC 1 1851" to New York with frontside "STEAMSHIP 10", fine and scarce

CONFEDERATE STATES - PRUSSIA: 1861, Entire letter, dated "Galveston den 3tn Octtr 1861" to Crossen, Prussia endorsed "pr. R.M.Str. via Tampico", via forwarding agent "DROEGE OETLING & Co. MATAMORUS" with manuscript date "17/10/61" and British PO "TAMPICO NO 29 1861", from here per "Clyde" to St. Thomas and on December 16 per "Shannon" to Southampton; in Germany taxed with a total of "28" silbergroschen. A fine and very rare Civil War letter

CUBA - ARGENTINA: 1871, Entire letter from Havana to Buenos Aires, carried via forwarding agent at St. Thomas, here franked with US 1870, 10 c. brown and GB 4 d. vermilion and mailed "ST. THOMAS 29 10 1871" by US mail boat to Rio de Janeiro, here the stamps cancelled by "C83" of the British PO and the letter taken by GB mail boat to Buenos Aires. A very rare, fine and highly attractive letter from the 'Argentina Mail', certificate Philatelic Foundation (2002) Provenance: 'Rarities of the World' (Siegel 1983), Dr. Roger Schnell (2002)

CUBA - ARGENTINA: 1874, Entire letter from Santiago to Buenos Aires, transported by forwarding agent "J. NEILS & Co. ST. THOMAS W.I." (blue oval on reverse), franked with US 10 c. brown and (most likely) GB 4 d. orange which came off either already at St. Thomas or in transit, mailed "ST. THOMAS ../10 1874", transported by United States and Brazil mail steamship company vessel to Montevideo with small blue "CORREOS MONTEVIDEO 1 DIC 74", applied over the empty space of the British stamp. A very interesting and scarce letter of the "Argentina Mail"

CUBA - FRANCE: 1852, Entire letter from British PO "HAVANA MR 26 1852" to Le Havre, transported March 27 per "Dee" to St. Thomas and from here per "Clyde" to Southampton and further to France with 2 strikes of boxed "COLONIES & C. ART. 13." on front

CUBA - FRANCE: 1867, Entire letter from Santiago de Cuba, transported April 22 with ship "Pajaro del Oceano" of Herrera, Bolet y Cia. to "LAMB & CO. ST. THOMAS, W.I." (this transport was paid by an annual fee of £ 800,-), transfered to British PO, franked with pair 4 d. vermilion, pl. 8, cancelled "C51" and sent from "ST. THOMAS AP 28 67" to London with red arrival mark tying the franking, then to France, interesting letter, sign. Møller BPP (SG Z10)
