"SANTHOMAS.", oval marking, clear strike on wrapper with return address "Del cefe civil y Militar de la Prova. de Marac." to the Venezualian consul at Santiago de Cuba, taxed "12" reales inland postage; some tropical staining, otherwise fine. Only few entires with the oval marking are recorded, this one of the nicer ones.

"S.TOMAS", octagonal handstamp in red, 2 strikes, one superb, one weak, next to each other on entire letter dated "New Haven 16th May 1846", with forwarding address "Mess. Whitmore & Co. St. Thomas" to Puerto Rico with arrival mark of June 22, charged "2 Rs.", very rare; the earlies recorded strike in red of which only few entires are recorded

"S. TOMAS", octagonal marking in blue, clear strike on envelope, addressed to a Danish captain at Mayaguez with arrial mark "ISLA DE PORTO-RICO 30 MAR. 1865", charged "2½" reales inland postage with blue handstamp; a rare marking

"S. TOMAS", octagonal marking in blue, good strike on entire letter with crowned circle "PAID AT BARBADOES", sent via "ST:-THOMAS FE 4 1851" to San Juan, Puerto Rico, here marked in blue with "1¼ (onzas)". A rare and unusual letter

" S. TOMAS", octagonal marking in blue on lettersheet from St. Thomas 1862 to Puerto Rico, dispatched at the "ST. THOMAS EXPRESS OFFICE" (blue oval with manuscript date). A fine letter with a rare combination of postmarks

"SPANISH. MAIL. PACKET SP 28 68", clear strike on reverse of envelope with oval "CAPITAN GENERAL DE PUERTO RICO E.*M.", addressed to the Spanish consul at Southampton, transported via "ST. THOMAS SP 29 68" and British arrival "SOUTHAMPTON PACKET LETTER OC 14 1868", charged with "1/-" handstamp. The envelope with small faults; a very rare marking

1866, James T. Abbot & Co. circular, dated June 21 and headed "PER 'NORTH AMERICA"", addressed to Portland, franked with 1861/67, 2 c. black with cork cancel; the 'North America' of the US-Brazil mail line arrived New York June 28, 1866. An interesting item, according to Dubois one of two recorded circulars from St. Thomas with blackjacks

1875, Envelope from "ST. THOMAS 13/8 1875" to New Jersey, paid in cash with red boxed "FRANCO" and franked with US 1870, 5 c. blue, tied on arrival "NEW YORK SEP 20"; the stamp slightly affixed over the edge of the cover, still good perforation, fine and scarce

1876, Small envelope with blue private (?) handstamp "ST. CROIX, D.W.I. / OCT 16 1876" to New Jersey, charged on arrival with "NEW-YORK SHIPLETTER 6 / NOV 8"; very unusual

1864, Waterlow 2 r. green, tied by clear "CORREOS LA GUAIRA SEP 9" to Bordeaux, endorsed "p. Steamer" and sent via London and Paris to Bordeaux, taxed "16" decimes; the stamp with slight scissors' cut at top, but perforation still intact; a very fine and scarce entire (Facit LG2)

2 r. green, tied by partly weak La Guaira cds. to lettersheet via "LONDON MY 15 65" to Pamplona, Spain, here charged with "4 R", with arrival mark of May 17, a fine cover with a scarce destination, sign. Holcombe (Facit LG2)

1866, Rasco, Stone II 2 r. green, tied by Caracas circle postmark to lettersheet via England to Bordeaux, very fine condition for this issue (one pulled perf) (Facit LG11)

1866, 2 r. yellow-green, tied by clear "F. VA. ADMON. DE CORREOS LA GUAIRA FEB 25" to entire letter via London and France to Genua with boxed "GB 2 F 60 C", charged "10" decimes; a very fine letter with scarce destination for this issue, certificates Fiecchi (1971) and Moorhouse (2014)

Stone IIb: 2 r. orange, tied by "CORREOS CARACAS" to lettersheet via London to Bordeaux, charged on arrival with "10" decimes; the rouletting slightly irregular, otherwise very fine and rare, just 8 entires recorded with this stamp, sign. Holcombe (Facit LG13)

1869, Jesurun ½ r. green, perf. 10, complete sheet with 100 stamps, mint never hinged, 2 stamps with light diagonal crease, otherwise very fine and scarce (Facit LG21)

Jesurun 2 r. red, perf 12½, tied by circle "CORREOS CARACAS" to cover endorsed "Voie anglaise" via London to Bordeaux, the stamp addtionally tied by tax stamp "20" (decimes), transit mark and boxed "GB/1 f 60 C"; a very fine and rare entire, only few letters known with the narrow perforation; sign. Holcombe with certificate (1984) (Facit LG20)

1867, "ST. THOMAS LA GUAYRA & Po. CABELLO STEAM PACKET", clear seal with ship in centre, applied for cash payment of 2 reales, on lettersheet (one backflap missing) with embossed return address of Caracas, addressed to France with London transit mark of November 22, 1867 and French transit marks of the same day, in France charged with "10" decimes, very attractive and rare, only few entires recorded with the provisional ship  handstamp, sign. Holcombe with certificate (1990)

LA GUAIRA - SANTOMAS: 1870, 1 c. yellow-brown, ½ r. green and 2 r. blue, unused, ½ r. with original gum, 1 c. 2 teeth fixed with hinges, otherwise fine, very scarce (Facit LG 23, 24, 26)

HAPAG: 1871, Entire commercial letter of "SCHÖN WILLINK & Co. ST. THOMAS", dated August 14, endorsed "p. Bavaria" to Caracas, transported free of charge and handed over to Venezuelan post, which applied double circle "CORREOS LA GUAYRA"; no postage due noted; an interesting and scarce early letter transported with the first ship of the HAPAG The HAPAG started its service with the first arrival of the "Bavaria" on April 18, 1871. Schön Willink & Co.were HAPAG agent at St. Thomas.

1875, Lettersheet with sender's cachet of Caracas, privately carried to St. Thomas and here posted at Danish PO "ST. THOMAS 30/6 1875" and transported with HAPAG "Rhenania" to Hamburg, here marked "2" for the 2nd French rate and charged "30" pfennig, in Paris blue "ALLEMAGNE 2 E ERQ. PARIS" was applied, also red boxed "TAXE KREDIÉ / TAXE ÉTRANGÈRE / TAXE FRANCAISE / TOTAL" and charged "10" decimes. Effective of July 1, 1875 Germany was member of the GPU, but France did not become member before 1876.

10 c. blue-green/yellow/black, block of 64 stamps (just top row missing for complete sheet), unused with original gum, except a few stamps all unmounted mint, perforation squeezed and separated in some places, some brownish staining on 8 stamps, still a fine and rare multiple, to our knowledge the largest existing multiple

10 c. blue-green/yellow/black, horizontal pair from the upper left sheet corner with full sheet margins, the right stamp with triple embossing of the centre, used with cds. "ST. THOMAS 2/8 1875" on small piece on which it originally sticks; a fine pair with a rare variety and extremely rare cancellation of St. Thomas, certificate RPS 2014 (cannot certify the stamps stick original on the piece)

10 c. blue-green, yellow, black, cancelled by pencross, used on entire letter from Maracaibo privately carried to Puerto Cabello and from here per HAPAG steamer to forwarder Feddersen Willink & Co. at St. Thomas with Danish cds. of October 8, 1877, transported to Veracruz with French steamer 'Ville de St. Nazaire' with postage of "23" cents marked in blue crayon. Some ink erosion in the address and the stamp with light crease, still fine, certificate Møller BPP (2001) Provenance: Svend Yort coll. (R. Lowe, Basel, 1981)

10 c. blue-green, yellow-black, 2 copies applied over 2 copies GB 1 s. green, pl. 11, tied by Liverpool duplex to lettersheet to St. Thomas with date stamps of Danish and British PO and sent via HAPAG agent Schön, Willinkg & Co. to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, the HAPAG stamps cancelled by target resp. faint agent cachet, both with corner faults at lower right resp. upper left, the entire somewhat tatty. A very rare combination cover, just 4 combination covers are recorded with HAPAG stamps. Certificate APS (2002)

The envelope with some creasing, lightly affecting the postage due stamp, 10 c. 2 rounded corners and some light staining, a very scarce cover
