UNITED STATES - CHINA: 1858, part paid lettersheet from "PROVIDENCE R.I. FEB. 23 1858" via Prussia, Trieste and Alexandria to Hongkong. Prepaid with 38 cents till Alexandria and taxed here with "1/-" for the conveyance to Hongkong, to be paid by the recipient. Just 5 letters from The US via Trieste to China have been recorded.

TURKISH EMPIRE (THESSALY) - AUSTRIA: 1870: Entire letter  from Volos to Trieste, dated inside '11/23 July 1870' (Gregorian resp. Julian calender), franked with Egypt 1867, 1 pi. red, tied by black 'retta' as the Volos Consular Post Office datestamp had yet to be placed in use. The cover travelled with the Khedivial Mail Line to Syros with frontside "SYROS 12 JULY 70", rated '25' lepta in blue crayon (equal to 10 kreuzer to be paid by the recipient) and was forwarded to the Austrian Lloyd express line from Constantinople to Triest.; on reverse Trieste arrival cds (July 28). An outstanding and unique entire - the Consular Office on Volos was announced to open on July 14, 1870, thus this cover was mailed on the second of the (weekly) services. Signed A. Diena, A. EGYPT - DENMARK: 1857, unpaid entire letter from Alexandria to Aalborg, dated inside "31er October 1857", showig on revers forwarding agent handstamp "DUMMREICHER FRERES & Co. ALEXANDRIE EGYPTE", on front "COL VAPORE D'ALESSANDRIA" next to blue boxed "6¼" (silbergroschen) of Triest for the conveyance to the danish border, corresponding with manuscript "8½" Hamburg shilling. In Denmark a total of "36" skilling were charged to the receipient, including 8 skilling internal Danish postage. An interesting letter with scarce destination.

EGYPT - TUSCANY: 1856, entire letter from Alexandria to Livorno, showing on front  black oval "FORWARDED BY MESS.RS BRIGGS & CO." and cds. "TRIEST 28 12 Früh", Livorno arrival mark of 1.1. 1857 on reverse. The letter was charged with "12" kreuzer c.m. resp. "8" crazie Tuscany currancy, to be paid by the receipient

EGYPT - ITALY, 1869, Entire letter from Cairo via Alexandria and Trieste to Genova, franked with 1867, 20 para green and 2 piastre blue, tied by cds. "V.R. POSTE VICE_REALI EGIZIANE CAIRO 19 MARZ 69" with adjacent "Franca"; on reverse transit- and arrival marks. Very fine and fresh. Certificates Enzo Diena (1987) and BPA (2001)

CHINA - AUSTRIA:  1780, entire letter endorsed inside "Canton le 20 Janvier 1780 / Par le Vau le Prince de Kaunitz" adressed to Count Charles de Proly, financier of the 'Austrian East India Company' at Trieste. The letter was transported on the Austrian vessel 'Fürst Kaunitz' via the Cape of Good Hope; due to the Siege of Gibraltar, the ship was stopped here by the british frigate 'Britannia' to controle the load; the letter was opened and endorsed "Cette lettre a ete detacheteé par le Capte. de la fregate la Britania anglaise Commande par capt. Tompton. Le 1er aoute 1780 (signature)". Apperantly the ship was held up at Malaga and the letter posted here, showing on front clear "ANDALUCIA BACA"; according to the 'Wiener Zeitung' the 'Fürst Kaunitz' arrived at Trieste on October 4th 1780. A spectacular and very early letter from China, supposed to be the earliest to central Europe.

CHINA - PRUSSIA:  1864, envelope with front side red "SHANGHAI PAID JU 5 64" and endorsed "Via Triest" to Breslau, charged "6" (sgr.) in blue crayon and tax stamp for the conveyance from Alexandria to Breslau. On reverse blue cds. of Shanghai and Hongkong and arrival marks.

1853, (Jan. 8) folded letter franked with vertical pair 1851 Franklin 1c. blue, two singles Washington 3c. red and single 12c. black, all tied by blue integral cds "Columbia S.C. 3 Paid Jan. 11" to letter to Bremen, carried on the Havre Line Humboldt, leaving New York on Jan. 15, 1853, and arriving in Le Havre Jan. 29 with red cds. "Outre-Mer Le Havre 29 Janv. 53" alongside, a rare and very attractive "Complete Set" 1851 Issue Franking on an unusual Bremen Closed Mail cover, certificate PF (2010)

1859, (Mar 19) envelope dated "Newburg Wis. March 3 1859", franked with 1857/60  Washington 3c. rose and 12c. black, used with black manuscript cross, to Bockenheim. The letter weighed over ½ ounce and was supplemented at the counter by 15c. cash payment with corresponding manuscript "Paid 15 cents", via New York with red integral cds., also tying the stamps, "N. YORK BREMEN Pkt. MAR 19 PAID 24" and upon arrival in Bremen blue three-line "AMERICA ÜBER BREMEN FRANCO" applied, a scarce and very attractive cover which was fully paid but partly paid in cash

First accountancy mark "16" applied, this crossed out and correctly "32" applied, upon arrival in Bremen blue three-line "AMERICA ÜBER BREMEN FRANCO" applied and "8 Wf" noted for the postage beyond the GAPU

1866, (Feb 19) cover endorsed "By Bremen / Hamburg Line" franked with 1861 Jackson 2c. black, two singles affixed slightly overlapping and single Washington 24c. grayish lilac, all tied by target cancel with matching cds. "SPARTA FEB 19" alongside, via New York with red integral cds. "N. YORK BREMN. PKt. FEB 24 PAID" to "George E. Pratt Car of his Excellency Rufus King..Rome". Red Crayon "25" credit to the Stadtpostamt and via Taxis mail, Marseille and Civitavecchia to the Destination. The stamps some blunted perfs, small tear, some wear and mended at right where opened roughly, a fine and very scarce fully prepaid use  through France to Italy

"WINONA OCT 19" alongside on cover to Denmark, upon arrival in Bremen violet boxed "BREMEN 2 11 68" and boxed accountancy mark "Weiterfr. 1 Sgr". applied, some wear, as stamps where applied at edge, and part of backflap and small part of front at lower left restored, still a attractive and scarce destination

USA DEN DENMARK: 1870, Pictorial Issue 3c. blue, single and strip of three tied by cork cancel with matching cds. "HARTDORF FEB 23" to pre-printed cover via New York with "NEW YORK PAID ALL DIRECT FEB 26" and via Bremen with red boxed "BREMEN 1/3 70 FRANCO" and accountancy marks "2½" resp. "Weiterfr. 1 Sgr." to Denmark with arrival mark, small opening tears at left, right stamp with corner crease entirely in margin. Very attractive cover from the Warner correspondence, the rates to Denmark by NGU mails were 13c prepaid and 16c unpaid, the Hartford mail clerk apparently experienced significant confusion on this point as a number of covers from this correspondence are overpaid or underpaid, here a 1c. underpayment was ignored and treated as fully prepaid
