1860, EDINBURGH: Washington 10c. vertical strip of three and single 12c. black, each cancelled in manuscript with "X", matching "Paid 42d" rating and left and cds. "GALVA JUL 10 1860" on envelope to Hudikswall, Sweden. Red New York exchange mark on reverse with matching red "19" credit handstamp on front, red "AACHEN FRANCO" and manuscript "f5" sgr. rating and two "HELSINGBORG 28 7 1860" struck, minor restoration top 10c. adhesives pulled perf, otherwise a very fine usage

1860, HUNGARIAN: Victoria 6d. violet tied by duplex "LONDON FE 8 60" to Fredericton, New Brunswick. The Ship wrecked on Cape Sable, Nova Scotia on the 20th during a gale, 237 lives were lost in this disaster with no survivors, some of the mail bags were washed ashore, reverse with red manuscript "Saved from "SS Hungarian", faults as to be expected, very rare with only 3 covers known from this wreck

1861, JURA: Maiden Voyage after purchase by Allan from Cunard, Victoria 2d. blue and 4d. rose tied by duplex "EDINGBURG OC 16 61" to small envelope to Virginia, underpaid, and thus debit handstamp "3 CENTS" applied, missed the sailing of "ANGLO SAXON" thus put on "JURA", franking ingnored and with integral cds. "PORTLAND AM. PKT. 24 NOC 4 1861" struck on arrival, the cover was undeliverable due to the Civil War, sent to Dead Letter office and two strikes of red boxed "Sent back to England without a reason for non delivery", fine and interesting entire

1861, NORTH BRITON: Prepaid envelope from "QUEBEC NO 1 1861" with straight-line "6d Paid 7½Cy" to New Orleans, sent via Liverpool to beat the Civil War blockade,departured from Quebec but wrecked on the Mingan Islands in Labrador during a storm on 5th November with total loss but no casualties. Put on the following steamship "Anglo Saxon" and arrived Liverpool 23rd November. Transferred to "Africa", some wear as to be expected, the only known cover from this wreck.

1862, CITY OF WASHINGTON: 3c. rose and 30c. orange, each as horizontal pair, fresh and bright colours, tied by three clear strikes of Boston large "PAID" grid cancel to folded lettersheet endorsed "via England p City of Washington" to Port-Elizabeth, red crayon "12" credit marking and red "LONDON E.C. PAID JY 4 62" alongside, further red "1"d colonial rate, some negligible crease from edge of interior lettersheet (removed), minor edge wear, small affixed lot label, a very fine and rare, colourful 1861 double franking to Cape of Good Hope, certificate PF (2007)

"CHICAGO JUL 30 1862" to envelope to Brussels, franked with 21 cents, the rate by American Packet to Belgium via British open mail, the post office did not recognize that this rate had been superseded 18 month earlier, charged with "2" decimes due, backflap missing, short and/or toned perfs, still and attractive entire

1863, RANGER: Envelope from Bermuda endorsed "pr. Ranger" and "Care L.G. Haille..." sent unpaid to Wilmington with arrival mark, charged with "12" (=2c. ship and 10c. inland) and sent unward to Wetumpka, Alabama, flap missing, otherwise fine

1864, ETNA: Jefferson 5c. brown and horizontal pair Washington 24c. gray tied by bold strikes of star in circle to folded letter to Shanghai, "32" credit in manuscript to the UK, carried by P&O´s "Euxine" to Alexandria, "Rangoon" to Galle and "Emeu" to Hong Kong with arrival mark "HONGKONG AU 5 64" and "1d" british colonial credit handstamp, left 24c. adhesives small nick and toned, otherwise fine, certificate PF (2006)

1864, ENTA: Unpaid triple-weight folded letter dated "Smyrna, December 8th 1864" with matching cds. "SMYRNE 8 DEC 64" alongside to New York, charged with "198/90" (90 cents in gold or 198 in notes), fine and scarce

1864, ST.DAVID: Victoria 4d. brownish-red, horizontal pair and singles, tied by duplex "HAWICK NO 24 64" to mourning cover to Canton, New York. The ship broke her scrw and was towed by the "Damascus" to Portland, there the rare circular red "21" struck as credit handstamp to the UK, right stamp few imperfections, rare and attractive entire being one of only four recorded bearing the circular "21 cents" handstamp

1864, UNKNOWN VESSEL: Confederacy, Blockade-Run from Fort Pemperton via "BAHAMAS AU 3 1864" and Halifax and put on Cunards "ASIA" to Liverpool, blue crayon charge  "1(sh)/5(d)" plus "7"(d) manuscript rate totaled in "2" thus handstamp "2/-" struck,  smaller repairs to the cover, still and attractive and scarce entire from the famous Burckmyer correspondence

1865, CARROLL: Maiden Voyage, folded lettersheet from "LONDON JU 6 66" to Richmond, Virginia, upon arrival, black "BALTIMORE JUN 1866" applied, and due to missing handstamps for the rate, manuscript "24/36" in crayon as depreciated currency noted,  very few covers of this route are known
