AUSTRIAN POSTAL AGENCIES: 1859, folded entire to SYROS, on front a fairly complete strike in black of the oval handstamp "AGENZIA DEL LLOYD AUSTRIACO - Canea", manuscript "20" fee, minor aging, still fine and very scarce

"AGENZIA DEL LLOYD AUSTRIACO/ RETTIMO", clear blue oval handstamp on cover with original contens 1860 to Constantinople. Very fine and rare (Tschil. Fig. 548)

ENGLISH POST OFFICES: 1898 Provisional 20pa. violet, eight singles tied by Union Jack handstamp "TENEMOS" on an envelope addressed to the Rifle Brigade, reverse arrival Austrian cds. "CANDIA OESTERREICHISCHE POST 3 12 98", vertical fold affecting one adhesive, small tear at left not touching and minor aging spot, otherwise fine and scarce

FRENCH POST OFFICES: 1899 Military mail, stampless envelope endorsed "Corps d´expédition francais en Crète", with superb strike of the cds. "HIERAPETRA CRETE 15 MARS 99" on front, alongside blue handstamp "HIERAPETRA commandant d´armes Crète" confirming the free frank status, sent to France, with transit and arrival on reverse "MONTROUGE 27 MARS 99", some minor corner wear, very fine and rare

FRENCH POST OFFICES: 1899 Military mail, stampless envelope endorsed "Corps d´expédition francais à Madagascar", with a very fair strike of the cds. "SITIA CRETE 6 JUIN 99" on front, alongside a faint blue handstamp "MARINE FRANCAISE SERVICE A LA MER" confirming the free frank status, sent to an active service man on duty at MADAGASCAR, maritime cds. "MARSEILLES A LA REUNION 15 JUIN 99", transit on reverse "ALEXANDRIE" and "PORT SAID"; cover opened for display, back flap slightly shortened and some aging, still an extraordinary combination of a rare origin and exotic destination

OTTOMAN EMPIRE OFFICES: 1872, folded entire sent to SITIA, with a very fair strike of the bluish-black hexagonal handstamp in Old-Turkish "PESKOKEFAL", part wax seal on reverse, archival file fold and some toning, otherwise fine, a rare postmark with only a few recorded 

OTTOMAN POST OFFICES: 1875 10pa. block of four, tied by four superb strikes of the bluish hexagonal "HANYA" in old-Turkish, on a large envelope with reverse arrival cds. "STAMBOUL 13 Nov. 77", one back flap missing, very fine and appealing item, ex Schmitt

OTTOMAN EMPIRE OFFICES: 1880 (ca), official stampless envelope, with a fair strike of the black negative seal in Old-Turkish "HANYA" (Feenstra 12, Type II), complete wax seal on reverse, minor soiling an wear, still fine and a rare postmark 

RUSSIAN POST OFFICES:  PROOFS, 1899 Second Definitive Issue without stars, 1m., 2m. and 1gr., unused, complete set of proofs in black without control mark, the 1m. and 1gr. with usual small thins, the 2m. very fine; very scarce, signed Schmitt

1651/1910 (ca.), specialized collection in two albums with unused and used stamps and sets and over 50 covers and cards, starting with large Hermes Heads used at Crete; some interesting items such as incoming mail, registered mail, cancellation collection, very scarce group of the 1905 Therison Rebellion issues, including several covers, etc. In addition some unused postcards and duplicates and some literature. Overall condition fine to very fine. An attractive and interesting collection.

1900/12, specialised postal history collection with over 60 covers and cards, with Cretan First issue, wide range of frankings and rates throughout, better items such as Prince George 10l. tied by scarce cds. "KASTELLI 10 JAN. 1904" to a postal receipt for a registered letter, further strike alongside, some postage dues overprint varieties, dotted rural markings such as "6" VOUKOLIES, etc.; some aging and wear noted, otherwise overall condition is fine, a noteworthy assembly

AUSTRIAN POSTAL AGENCIES: 1845/89, ten folded entires, envelope and postal stationery card, incl. 1845 folded entire to Trieste with two lines handstamp "CANEA 21: LU." and disinfection slits; seven covers with Austrian adhesives including some mixed frankings with Greece Large Hermes, such as 10sld. blue tied by two lines "CANEA 2 OTT" on front of a folded entire to PIREUS, alongside Greece 20l. blue tied on arrival as postage due; condition varies from poor to very fine

AUSTRIAN LEVANT: 1896/10, group of nine covers and cards, as well as some fragments, including 25c. blue tied by cds. "RETTIMO" to reverse of an envelope to Constantinople, 5c., 10c., 15c., 25c. and 50c. tied by cds. "CANEA" to a registered envelope to München, also 10p. (8) and 1pia. (2) tied by cds. "CANDIA OESTERREICHISCHE POST 27 V 99" on a registered cover to Germany (opened for display), fine to very fine

AUSTRIAN POST OFFICES: 1867/1914 (ca.), specialized collection with used and unused stamps as well as over 30 covers and cards. Many better items such as Mi. 7 used (signed A. Brun), 11 used, Lloyd maritime mail, mixed franking Hermes Head/Austrian Levant; overall fine to very fine condition, an attractive and excellent assembly of that area.

ITALIAN POST OFFICES: 1900/1912 (ca.), specialized collection, unused and used complete with some multiples and covers; overall fine to very fine condition, an attractive assembly of that area

ITALIAN POST OFFICES: 1900/13, group of four (4) covers used in La Canea, including a scarce usage of Italian 15c. adhesive without overprint, tied by cds. "LA CANEA -7 12 12" together with 1c. and 2c. overprinted, to an envelope to Canada, some faults, overall condition fine

OTTOMAN POST OFFICES: 1865/97 (ca.), specialized collection with used stamps, partly on fragments, and 14 cards and covers. Better items such as "SUDA" (3), "LASID YENIKOY" (6),  "KANDIYA" on envelope, etc. ,overall fine to very fine condition, an attractive assembly of that area

OTTOMAN EMPIRE OFFICES: 1880/98 (ca), collection of used stamps and postmarks, incl. more than ten franked covers, starting with 1880s Ottoman adhesives tied on three envelopes by hexagonal postmarks "KANDIA" and "HANIA", also single and multiple frankings tied by bilingual cds. "HANIA", "RETHYMO"; some stampless mail including a scarce negative seal "HANIA", faint, on an official letter; overall condition fine to very fine

RUSSIAN POST OFFICES: 1899 used and unused specialised collection of over 60 stamps and some covers, with Mi. 4 large block of 36 (some folds and tears), unused, better items such as Mi. 2 and Mi 4 (2) tied by straightline "RETHYMNO" on an envelope (tear at left not affecting the adhesive), later issues with Mi. 8 sheetlet of sixteen, struck with cds. "RETHYMNO 8 6 99"; overall condition is fine to very fine, scarce group

RUSSIAN POST OFFICES: 1899 (ca.), specialized collection with used and unused stamps and 2 covers. Better items like Mi. 2 on cover and 13 copies ex 5-7, several blocks and printer´s wastes (double prints, printed on both sides, etc.); overall fine to very fine and fresh condition, some signed Schmitt, an attractive assembly of that area

1899, 1m. rose (2) with fresh colours and sharp printing with RETHYMNO handstamp, 1m. green (5) one sheet margin single and a fresh mint never hinged bloc of four (ex Schmidt), 2m. black (20) with a fine selection of shades and papers, including a pair and four blocs (one creased), as well as a used on small fragment; overall very fine quality and assembly from those stamps issued during the Russian occupation of Creta (Mi.-Nr 2, 3, 4)

PRE-STAMP PERIOD: 1847/60, ten folded entires from or to CANEA, some endorsed "Paquebots à vapeur de la Méditerranée", one with scarce "YPERTHALASSIA" handstamp on front, some with transit cds.
