1854, 1st Printing 4 a. pale red & blue, 12 singles from all positions of the sheet, all cut to shape, cancelled or tied by diamond of bars to reverse of sixtuple rate cover from Bombay to Canton, China, endorsed "Steamer Singapore". Cover with some usual edge wear and lower flap largely removed by opening, otherwise fine and attractive. An important exhibition-level Ist issue entire with the largest recorded franking of the 4 anna on cover, the 12 singles representing all positions in the sheet.Ex Dawson. (Estimate 50/70.000)
1854, 3rd Printing 4a bright red & bright blue, Head Die II, Frame Die I, horizontal of Stone S1, positions 11-12, large even margins on all sides, used with 1854, 1a red, Die II horizontal pair, good to large margins, tied by diamond of dots to 2nd rate cover 1856 to Bury St. Edmonds, England, with arrival mark, endorsed "Via Bombay & Southampton", with red boxed "SECUNDERABAD FEB. 18" despatch datestamp (Giles 2) on back, on front red "INDIA PAID" crescent and London transit mark also tying the franking. The left 1 a. with minor rubbed spot, otherwise very fine and fresh. An outstanding 1st issue rarity; one of the finest recorded 4 anna 3rd printing multiples on cover and truly exceptional. 1854, 4th Printing 4 a. red & blue, 8 singles, cut to shape, tied by diamond "1" with adjacend red "BOMBAY B.P.P." to opened out quadruple rate cover to the 'Medical Superintendent' in Aden, with clearly struck "BOMBAY AUG. 29"(1856) despatch mark on reverse, also Aden arrival mark. Slightly opened at left on arrival, with minor wear and a few small toned spots, not detracting from the fine and fresh appearance of this rare quadruple-rate franking. An outstanding and impressive entire to a rare destination. Ex Frenkle, 'Kohinoor', Heddergott, and Dr. Kornan. (Estimate 25-35.000€)
