1861/62: 4 d. rose-lake, a superb four margined example used on 1864 cover to Cow Bay, Cape Breton; the stamp with scissor cut in margin at base and in upper left corner margin, neither apparent with the naked eye, cancelled by barred obliterator in black. 'St. Johns-Newfoundland-Paid' cds in red at left (June 29) and reverse with 'North Sydney / CB' datestamp of receipt (July 1). The earliest known usage of a 4 d. provincial rate cover (#1 in the Pratt census), with just four covers recorded Scott 18 = $ 5'000.
