½ d. deep rose, horizontal strip of 4 and horizontal pair with 6 d. slate-violet, one stamp of the pair just cut-into the outer frame line, otherwise clear to wide margins, the pair with small bottom sheet margin, the 6 d. with ca. 5 mm right sheet margin, all tied clear numeral "18" to registered lettersheet with adjacent Kingston cds. of 23.11.1857, to New York; the left ½ d. of the strip with crease, where originally fixed around edge of the cover (here re-folded); 2 vertical filing creases through the franking pressed, the cover cleaned; an important showpiece and the only known registered cover to the US at 9 d. rate Provenance: Louise Boyd Dale and Alfred F.
