5 c. red brown and 10 c. green, type III, both fresh colour and ample to large margins all round, 5c. tied by French transit and partial cds. "NAUVOO Ills." and 10 c. pen cancelled and tied by manuscript mark to folded letter to Lucon, red boxed "SHORT PAID" black "NEW YORK 6" and magenta handwritten "15" struck out by "16" decimes handstamp alongside. Part of the address restored, 5 c. stamp with faint crease at bottom, otherwise very fine. This is the only example of a Short Paid handstamp on a cover franked by a 5c. 1856 issue, illustrated in Frajola and Meyer, page 75, fig. 6-23, certificate PF.
