1867 & 1868, Covers (2) each from Lisbon to the Consul General of Portugal in Constantinople, Turkey, both covers carried at 230 reis rate; the earlier cover endorsed ‘Por El Rey’ at top, with imperforate 1866 10 r. yellow and 100 r. lilac, both with large margins all round, used in combination with perf. 12½ 1867 120 r. blue; tied by dotted «1» numerals with Lisbon despatch cds (Dec 16) and reverse showing Bordeaux transit (Dec 20) and French P.O. in Constantinople arrival (Dec 29). The 1868 matching cover franked by imperforate 1867 100 r. lilac with huge margins for this issue, scissor cut at top in margin only and perf. 1867 10 r. orange-yellow and 120 r. blue similarly tied by numeral ‘1’ with Lisbon despatch cds (April 30) in black. Reverse with French P.O. in Constaninople arrival (May 16). Minor file folds of no significance, a charming and extremely rare pair of three colour – mixed issue frankings to a most unusual destination.

"LISBOA 8/3 1976", endorsed in red crayon "v Brindisi" and sent via Singapore to Hongkong, on reverse "HONG-KONG MARINE SORTER SINGPORE TO HONG-KONG AP 17/24 76", in Hongkong by mistake opened by the Portuguese consul, who added 2 notations on reverse to the effect that he had opened the cover in error and stating their was no Portuguese consul in Amoy, afterwards forwarded to Amoy, showing on reverse rare marine sorter "HONGKONG TO SHANGHAE AP 2 ../ 29 76". "DEB. B.AU SEDENTAIRE/ARM. DE PORTUGAL" in rot, sauber rückseitig neben “D93B/ANVERS” auf kompletten Faltbrief von Neuilly 1810 an einen Marineangehörigen in Spanien, nachgesandt nach Antwerpen und schließlich nach Paris. Übliche leichte Beförderungsspuren. Sehr selten. 

 

FUNCHAL USED IN MADEIRA: 1892, King Carlos 20r. pale purple and 80r. green, neatly tied by cds. "FUNCHAL 24 JAN 95 MADEIRA" repeated on front with adjacent registration label, to an envelope to London, transit and arrival marks incl. "REGISTERED LONDON 4 FEB 96", on reverse wax seal; right adhesive with rounded corner otherwise fine

1870/76, Luis 5 r. black, 10 r. yellow and 80 r. orange, tied by barred oval "219" to letter sheet with adjacent light cds. of Villa Nova de Portimao to Christiania, Norway with Lissabon transit mark on reverse; the 5 r. affixed slightly damaged and all three stamps somewhat squeezed due to the cancellation, still an attractive and rare cover to Scandinavia Provenance: Svein Arne Hansen (2007)
