TURKISH EMPIRE - GERMAN EMPIRE: 1871, printed matter lettersheet from the German PO at Constantinople to Ölsnitz with arrival mark, franked with North German Confederation 1869, 1/3 gr. green and 1/2 gr. orange, tied by cds. "KAISERL.DEUTSCH.P.A. CONSTANTINOPEL 14/10 71". The stamps with tiny toning in the upper perforation, the cover with desinfection slits, not affecting the stamps. A very fine and rare entire; just 3 similar printed matters recorded.Certificate Bothe BPP (1979)

1871, Drucksachenhülle vom deutschen Postamt in Konstantinopel nach Ölsnitz mit Ankunftsstempel (22.10), frankiert mit Norddeutscher Bund 1869, 1/3 Gr. grün und 1/2 Gr. orange, entwertet durch EKr. "KAISERL.DEUTSCH.P.A. CONSTANTINOPEL 14/10 71". Die Marken mit winziger Tönung in der oberen Zähnung; der Umschlag mit Desinfektionsschlitzen, die die Marken nicht beeinträchtigend. Ein sehr schönes und seltenes Ganzstück; wir haben nur 3 ähnliche Drucksachen registriert.

At Trieste tax mark "7" (silbergroschen) applied for the conveyance from smyrna to Aachen, here "7½" applied for the non-british postage due, to be completed by the british share of 4 d. to a total due of "1/1" to be paid by the receipient.

TURKISH EMPIRE (THESSALY) - AUSTRIA: 1870: Entire letter  from Volos to Trieste, dated inside '11/23 July 1870' (Gregorian resp. Julian calender), franked with Egypt 1867, 1 pi. red,tied by black 'retta' as the Volos Consular Post Office datestamp had yet to be placed in use. The cover travelled with the Khedivial Mail Line to Syros with frontside "SYROS 12 JULY 70", rated '25' lepta in blue crayon (equal to 10 kreuzer to be paid by the receipient) and was forwarded to the Austrian Lloyd express line from Constantinople to Triest.; on reverse Trieste arrival cds (July 28). An outstanding and unique entire - the Consular Office on Volos was announced to open on July 14, 1870, thus this cover was mailed on the second of the (weekly) services. Signed A. Diena, A. Bolaffi and Todd,  Certificate F. Zanetti (1999).

TURKISH EMPIRE (LEBANON) - UNITED STATES: 1865, cover from Beirut to Washington D.C., franked with Austrian Levante 1864, 10 so. blue and 4 copies 15 so. brown, tied by single circle "BERUTTI 23/11"; adjacent red crayon "50" soldi foreign postage corresponding to red "AACHEN paid 23 cts", and red "N. YORK AM. PKT. PAID 1865 24 DEC.". 10 so. slightly damaged at top, where affixed over the edge of the cover and few shortish perfs, otherwise very fine with usual slight transportation marks. A scarce early cover from the Levante to the United States.

EGYPT - DENMARK: 1857, unpaid entire letter from Alexandria to Aalborg, dated inside "31er October 1857", showig on revers forwarding agent handstamp "DUMMREICHER FRERES & Co. ALEXANDRIE EGYPTE", on front "COL VAPORE D'ALESSANDRIA" next to blue boxed "6¼" (silbergroschen) of Triest for the conveyance to the danish border, corresponding with manuscript "8½" Hamburg shilling. In Denmark a total of "36" skilling were charged to the receipient, including 8 skilling internal Danish postage. An interesting letter with scarce destination.

MAURITIUS-NORTH GERMAN FEDERATION: 1869, small wrapper endorsed "Via Trieste" and franked with DLR 1 d. brown, tied by duplex "MAURITIUS AU 26 69" to Danzig, Prussia, showing on front blue "FORWARDED BY SCOTT & CO. MAURITIUS". Although the wrapper was correctly franked, it was not accepted as printed matter and charged "1/1" (equal 11 sgr.) for the letter rate via England. A fine and interesting item.

MAURITIUS-SWEDEN: 1857, Double rate lettersheet from the Swedish/Norwegian Consulate at Port Louis, backstamped "PACKET LETTER MAURITIUS JU 19 1857" in red, endorsed "per overland mail via Trieste" to Stockholm. The letter was prepaid to Alexandria with "2/-", charged in Germany "12½" sgr. for sea post Alexandria-Trieste and "6" sgr. Postal Union double rate ; in Sweden a total postage due of "1(Rdr) 37 (sk) 6 (rst)" was noted ; a very rare entire via the overland mail; just 3 letters during the skilling period from Mauritius to Sweden have been recorded

INDIA -AUSTRIA: 1857, letter sheet prepaid till Alexandria with 1856/64, 8 a. carmine and additionally with 1854, 2 a. green (cut to shape) for the 'after packet' fee, both tied by octogonal handstamp "B 1" of Calcutta. On front red boxed "INDIA PAID", british manuscript "1/-" and postage due marking "9" (kreuzer c.m.) for the sea postage from Alexandria to Trieste. A fine and scarce entire. (SG 49+31)

STRAITS SETTLEMENTS- HAMBURG: 1856, double rate letter sheet with large part of contens from Singapore to Hamburg, endorsed "via Trieste", part paid to Alexandria with four copies 1854/55, 4a. 4th printing (all cut square, mostly with clear margins), each cancelled by diamond of dots. On front rated "12½" silbergroschen for the conveyance from Alexandria to Hamburg, change to "17" Schilling local Hamburg currency in blue ink; on reverse clear arrival datestamp (1.3). A very rare franking and an outstanding item of India used in the Straits Settlements. Certificate Heddergott BPP (2002).

CHINA - AUSTRIA:  1780, entire letter endorsed inside "Canton le 20 Janvier 1780 / Par le Vau le Prince de Kaunitz" adressed to Count Charles de Proly, financier of the 'Austrian East India Company' at Trieste. The letter was transported on the Austrian vessel 'Fürst Kaunitz' via the Cape of Good Hope; due to the Siege of Gibraltar, the ship was stopped here by the british frigate 'Britannia' to controle the load; the letter was opened and endorsed "Cette lettre a ete detacheteé par le Capte. de la fregate la Britania anglaise Commande par capt. Tompton. Le 1er aoute 1780 (signature)". Apperantly the ship was held up at Malaga and the letter posted here, showing on front clear "ANDALUCIA BACA"; according to the 'Wiener Zeitung' the 'Fürst Kaunitz' arrived at Trieste on October 4th 1780. A spectacular and very early letter from China, supposed to be the earliest to central Europe.

CHINA - NORTH GERMAN FEDERATION: 1868, envelope (opened on 2 sides) from Shanghai to Breslau, franked with 1863/71, 8 c. orange and 24 c. green, tied by "B62"; on reverse blue despatch "SHANGHAE OC 13 68", black "HONG-KONG OC 18 68" (not quite compleete since a seal was cut out) and arrival marks. At Trieste rare boxed tax stamp "4" was applied, although the letter was sufficiently prepaid according to the old rate with 24 c. to Alexandria (which had been reduced to 12 c. 4 month before) and 8 c. for the remaining way. A scarce and interesting letter.(SG 11,14)

DUTCH EAST INDIES - NETHERLANDS: 1853, entire prepaid letter with 6 pages of text, dated "Koepang den 28 September 1853", written by the son of missionary Geerloff Heijmering to relatives in Zaltbommel, showing on front clear oval "FRANKO TIMOR" with "ZEE BRIEF" covered and manuscript "Landmail" inserted; adjacent "pr. Landmail via Triest". On reverse manuscript "120" for pre-paiment in duiten, boxed "INDIE OVER TRIEST" and Bommel arrival mark of 14.5.1854. An interesting letter from the Island of Timor.

At Triest the blue framed "6¼" was applied next to manuscript "3¼/3" for the sea postage from Alexandria to Trieste and Postal Union fee to Stralsund. Sweden charge a total of "1-1" riksdaler. A rare letter from Sumatra.
