Canea 1903, Cretan stamps not accepted by the Turkish Authorities: Cover franked with a 25L (1900 issue), tied with "CHANIA 13.May.1903", sent to Constantinople (Austrian Levant & Ottoman cds). The Authorities didn't accept the Cretan stamp (the Cretan State was not recognized by the Ottoman Empire), they heavily blotted the stamp with ink and marked the envelope with oval "T" marking. The receiver paid 2 piastres with pair of 10pa +20pa +1pi Ottoman Postage due stamps (1901 issue), affixed on reverse and tied by bilingual Ottoman "PANKALTI 19.3.319" cds, very rare and desirable material, a must for every Postal History exhibit
