5 c. red-brown on blued paper, very slightly touched in one spot at left, otherwise clear to mostly large margins, tied by 6-bar target to entire letter, without further dispatch mark, from Santiago to San Fernando, dated inside "Julio 4 de 1853". The first issue of Chile was issued on July 1 1853, a Friday. This is the earliest recorded use of a Colon stamp on letter and virtually the 'First day cover' of Chilean philately.
