½ d. rose on wove paper, 3 copies with ½ d. lilac-rose and 6 d. reddish purple on thick soft paper, 1 d. values partly touched or slightly cut-into at one side, otherwise clear to large margins, tied by several clear strikes of numeral "50" to cover endorsed "via St. Lawrence" and "Prepaid" from "WINDSOR JU 5 1858" to Scotland, carried by the Cunard Packet 'Africa', with transit marks of Hamilton and Liverpool and arrival marks; ½ d. lilac-rose lifted for inspection and replaced by hinge; the ½ d. rose stamps creased before use. Covers carried by the Canadian packet of the Allan Line via Quebec required 7½ d. postage, covers transported by British Packet (Cunard Line) via New York 10 d. (= 8 d. Sterling), for this route the cover was under-paid and accordingly taxed "2" with adjacent straight line "MORE TO PAY".
