1870: Cover from Bergamo to Yokohama, franked with 1863, Turin printing 40 c. carmine, two examples, tied by dotted numeral handstamps with Bergamo cds (Dec 18) and unframed 'P.P.' alongside. Reverse with Milano transit cds, Brindisi cds, British P.O. in Alexandria cds, Hong-Kong cds (Jan 29, 1871) and British P.O.'Yokohama' datestamp (Feb 6) of arrival in blue. Thorel, Ziegler & Co. was a silk merchant in Yokohama from 1865-1868. After Karl Thorel left the company , the remaining swiss owner Karl Ziegler run the business under the name Ziegler & Co. from 1868 – 1889.
