1871: Entire letter at single rate (applicable from Aug 1, 1871) from Lyon to Yokohama, Japan endorsed 'via Marseille & Suez', with fine franking of 1863 laureated 10 c. bistre (9 examples) and 1870 Siège 10 c. yellowish-bistre, single exaample, all tied by 2145A gros chiffres with 'Lyon / Les Terreaux' cds (Nov 25) of despatch and framed 'PD' in red. Reverse with Marseille transit and YOKOHAMA / BAU. FRANCAIS cds (Jan 13, 1872) in black. Slight pressed file fold of no significance, a most unusual and attractive cover.
