HAPAG: 1871, Entire commercial letter of "SCHÖN WILLINK & Co. ST. THOMAS", dated August 14, endorsed "p. Bavaria" to Caracas, transported free of charge and handed over to Venezuelan post, which applied double circle "CORREOS LA GUAYRA"; no postage due noted; an interesting and scarce early letter transported with the first ship of the HAPAG The HAPAG started its service with the first arrival of the "Bavaria" on April 18, 1871. Schön Willink & Co.were HAPAG agent at St. Thomas.

1875, Lettersheet with sender's cachet of Caracas, privately carried to St. Thomas and here posted at Danish PO "ST. THOMAS 30/6 1875" and transported with HAPAG "Rhenania" to Hamburg, here marked "2" for the 2nd French rate and charged "30" pfennig, in Paris blue "ALLEMAGNE 2 E ERQ. PARIS" was applied, also red boxed "TAXE KREDIÉ / TAXE ÉTRANGÈRE / TAXE FRANCAISE / TOTAL" and charged "10" decimes. Effective of July 1, 1875 Germany was member of the GPU, but France did not become member before 1876.

THOMAS 2/8 1875" on small piece on which it originally sticks; a fine pair with a rare variety and extremely rare cancellation of St. Thomas, certificate RPS 2014 (cannot certify the stamps stick original on the piece)

Some ink erosion in the address and the stamp with light crease, still fine, certificate Møller BPP (2001) Provenance: Svend Yort coll. (R. Lowe, Basel, 1981)

10 c. blue-green, yellow-black, 2 copies applied over 2 copies GB 1 s. green, pl. 11, tied by Liverpool duplex to lettersheet to St. Thomas with date stamps of Danish and British PO and sent via HAPAG agent Schön, Willinkg & Co. to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, the HAPAG stamps cancelled by target resp. faint agent cachet, both with corner faults at lower right resp. upper left, the entire somewhat tatty. A very rare combination cover, just 4 combination covers are recorded with HAPAG stamps. Certificate APS (2002)
