Bremen" and franked with Austria 1850 Coat of Arms 9kr. blue, fresh colour and good margins, tied by two-line "BLUDENZ 27 NOV", addressed to Belleville, Illinois. Upon arrival in Bremen boxed "Paid to Bremen" applied and via "Closed Mail" to New York, the exchange office weighed the letter and charged as double-letter with "NEW YORK 40 JAN 4", a very rare and attractive letter being to our knowledge the earliest franked cover from Austria to the United States

1852, (Dec 18) double-weight folded letter from "ROSENFELD 18 DEC 185" via "ST.P.A. BREMEN 25 12", there charged with "14" and transported with the "Hermann" to New York and from there to Philadelphia, the recipient could not be found thus faint red "NOT CALLED FOR" applied and the cover returned, officially opened, reverse showing large part of red wax seal of the commission for return letters, the sender was finally charged "1f22", a fine and interesting entire

1857, (Jan 24) fully paid quadruple weight envelope from New York with cds. "N. YORK U.S.PKT JAN 24 PAID" sent "in missionary concern" to the "hochverdienten und ordentlichen Professor der Theologie Dr. Henke" in Marburg, Hessia in the Thurn and Taxis district.  The steamer "Hermann" of the OSNC could not sail on schedule due to repairs and so the U.S. postmaster concluded a one-time trip contract with the Belgian steamer "Constitution" of the "S.A. Societe Belge des Bateaux a Vapeur Transatlantiques", which was signed on Jan. 24, 1857. About 8000 letters for Bremen via Antwerp at the expense of OSNC were carried. Cover slightly shortened and opened out for display
