1818, "Offizier Brief aus Luxemburg", manuscript endorsement on front of entire letter, dated "Perl den 24ten Septbr. 1818" to Mainz; reverse seal removed when opened. This is the earliest recorded 'officer's letter' from the fortress which was carried by the military mail against regulation because the sender had quit the army to marry in Luxemburg Provenance: Illustrated at C.
