1878, envelope with original contents written on board of the USS Ewatara, Samana Bay Feb 1st 1878 and addressed to Dubuque, Iowa, franked with horizontal pair US Washington 3c. green upon arrival in Key West arrival mark struck and handed over to US Post, a little roughly opened, otherwise fine, with interesting content reading: "My Dear Darling, still further complications have arisen in mail transportation, so that we really do not know when or how we will be able to send you letters.....This letter I am writing to send by a schoner that arrived a day or so ago and will probably leave tomorrow for Pensacola, Florida."
