1862, Napoleon perforated 5 c. green, with Lauree 80 c. rose and 1871, Siege 15 c. bistre, tied by GC "2240" to entire letter from "MARSEILLE 11 MARS 72" to Mariupol with frontside transit mark of Odessa and arrival mark. Very fine 3 issues combination and rare destination.
Laurée 80 c., two copies, with Ceres 40 c., tied to entire double rate letter 1872 to Santiago de Chile, endorsed "Voie de Magellan, Vapeur 'Garonne'".Handstruck '25' centavos due upon arrival (partly on franking). A fine and scarce letter.
1870/71, Ballon montée, Gouvernement de Défense Nationale, Module de 10 centimes, over 80 copies in bronze or copper of different flights plus the original printing dies for 60 different ballons and counterpart with inscription “LES MESSAGERS PARTENT PAR BALLON-POSTE ET RAPPORTENT LES NOUVELLES PAR LA PHOTOSTENOGRAPHIE - DIRECTEUR STEENAKERS”. 1859, Eagle 10 c. yellow-brown, vertical pair and single, and Sage 40 c. red-orange, one 10 c. close at bottom otherwise good to large margins all around, all neatly tied by cds. “TAITI (OCÉANIE) PAPEETE 11 DEC. 78” repeated alongside, to envelope to Germany, endorsed “via san Francisco” with blue entry cds. “TAITI V.E.U. T ANGL PARIS FEVR. 79”, on reverse arrival. Cover opened on three sides and with faults, two cissors cut rebacked and some staining, still an exceptionally rare mixed franking Eagle-Sage from a most unusual origin, correctly franked at the double weight step rate (UPU tariff of 1st May 1878), signed Scheller with his certificate (2024)
