"REGISTERED ST. THOMAS JY 28 70", red oval handstamp on registered cover with 1867/80, 3 d. rose, plate 5 and 1 s. green, plate 4 with clear "C51" and adjacent red "ST. THOMAS PAID" to Philadelphia with frontside cds. "NEW YORK REGISTERD". The stamps with minor imperfections, top back flap missing, otherwise very fine and attractive; only very few registered letters of the British PO at St. Thomas recorded (SG Z7, 29)
"S.TOMAS", octagonal handstamp in red, 2 strikes, one superb, one weak, next to each other on entire letter dated "New Haven 16th May 1846", with forwarding address "Mess. Whitmore & Co. St. Thomas" to Puerto Rico with arrival mark of June 22, charged "2 Rs.", very rare; the earlies recorded strike in red of which only few entires are recorded
