Nord America" addressed to Genoa, upon arrival charged for five Italian weights of 15gr. and postage due 5l. applied and tied by cds. "GENOVA 3 1 78" with two-line handstamp "Da Montevideo coi Postali Italiani" alongside, some folds away from adhesives and openend out for display, this is already a very rare single franking, beyond that the only known letter from South America with a single 5l. postage due stamp, signed E. Diena with certificate (1987)

1879, Postal stationery enevelope Numerals 10c. blue endorsed "p Steamer Matteo Bruzzo" from "MONTEVIDEO AUG 8 84" to Lemgo and from there forwarded to Bad Oeynhausen (Higgins und Gage #8) During the ships journey a terrible cholera epodemic afflicted the people provoking several deaths. The vessel was rejected by Uruguay and Brazil and forced to sail back to Italy, where it was kept in quarantine close to the isle of Pianosa
