BRITISH INDIA POST OFFICES IN JAIPUR: 1840/1900 (ca.), collection on 15 exhibition pages with 35 covers and cards beginning with red oval "JEYPORE FREE" on covers countersigned by the Governor-General Lord Dalhousie, including several registered items, "too late" and "missent"-markings, sorting marks etc., a very interesting group

HANDSTRUCK STAMPS (1862-1904): 22 covers and 2 pieces including some items of official mail and postage due; mostly entires with high rates with up to 22 strikes of red handstamp

Stone IA, ½ anna black proof, a variety of the  "original state" of the hand drawn lithograph stone, imperforate from position 1 of the sheet of 12 (4 x 3).  This black proof is most likely an early "test proof" of the stone with many characteristics of position 1 of the issued stamp (R1/1) but a number of differences.  Note that the "A's" in JAIPUR STATE  do not have crossbars versus a black proof sheet in the literature and printed on both sides of the paper does have cross bars on the "A's" in JAIPUR STATE.  Also the English lettering on the black proof here is more crudely drawn that the proof reported in the literature, very fine and extremely rare, certificate ISES (2021)

Stone IB,  ½ anna grey blue proof, position 1 (R1/1) from the sheet of 12 (4 x 3) with a noticible gap from the top of the umbrella to the inner frame line, the charistic of stone IB, position 1; imperforated and ungummed.

Stone IB, ½ anna pale blue, sheet of 12 (4 x 3), each stamp in the sheet hand drawn on the lithograph stone, rough perforation 14 with the complete sheet perforated in one operation, printed on off-white wove paper with red ink manuscript control number "1274"; unused with original gum, perforation strengthened by old hinges in 2 places, on front 2 neglectable black spears not affecting the stamps; fine and rare, certificate ISES (2021)

Stone IB, ½ anna pale blue, well centered, rough perforation 14, canceled with the normal Jaipur seal obliterator normally found on used copies of the first Jaipur issue, small corner crease, still fine

Stone IB, ½ anna pale blue, rough perforation 14, obliterated with a native character cds dated 9 November 1904 on a hand made small cover, late use of a heavily redrawn stone IB stamp originally found used in the summer of 1904.  Slight damage to the rough perforations of the stamp in the upper center/right margin and the cover roughly opened at the right edge, still fine

Stone II, ½ anna ultramarine, imperforated proof block of 4 from the lower left sheet corner, the upper left stamp with different 3rd character from right in the lower inscription; the upper pair with light bend and some minor staining, diagonal crease in the margin only, still fine and scarce, certificate ISES (2021)

Stone II, ½ anna grey blue on off-white wove paper, rough perforation 14, position 10, obliterated with a light strike of the Jaipur seal; very wide left margin with a small part of the corner missing well away from the stamp image.

Stone II, ½ anna ultramarine (pos. 1) with Jaipur seal cancel used on cover (folded back at right and paper break fixed by hinges), still fine and attractive  

½ anna pale blue, perforated, tied by clear seal cancel to home made cover with adjacent blurry native character cds possibly dated 23 August 1904, very fine, certificate ISES (2021)  

Stone II, ½ anna grey-blue and 1 ana dull red, tied by Jaipur seal cancel to envelope; the 1 anna slightly damaged at bottom, where afixed over the edge of the cover, still fine and scarce, certificate ISES (2021)

Stone II, 1/2 anna grey-blue perforated, used on Gwalior KEVII 1/2 anna cover front from "JAWAD GWAILORE STATE 2 NO 1904"  to Jaipur where the 1/2 anna  adhesive was added, cancelled by Jaipur native character cds. dated 4 November 1904; the front with marginal faults but very interesting Jaipur postal item. Certificate ISES (2020)

Stone II, ½ anna imperforate proof in grey-blue, ungummed, on off-white wove paper, position 10 of the sheet of 24; faint greyish staining, still very fine

Stone II, ½ anna SG 2 imperforate grey-blue with gum, on off-white wove paper, position 16 of the sheet of 24, very well centered, unused

Stone II, ½ anna, bright blue imperforated, position 20 of the sheet, unused with original gum, very well centered and very fine in distinct shade

Stone III: ½ anna, imperforated proof in deep blue, marginal block of 4 of pos. 11-12/15-16, unused without gum, very fine and rare, certificate ISES (2021)

Stone III: ½ anna ultramarine, tied by small Jaipur seal cancel to local cover

Stone III: ½ anna ultramarine imperforated, single stamp from pos. 24, unused with original gum, fine and scarce, certificate BPA (1988)

1 anna, ungummed proof in dull red shade like issued stamps, top marginal imperforate strip of four on off-white wove paper, top row of a sheet of 12 (like stone IA and IB of the 1/2 issue) with sheet frame lines extending to the edge of the sheet, very fine

1 anna scarlet in complete sheet of 12 with manuscript control number "577" in the lower right corner, unused with original gum, all stamps unmounted mint

1 anna dull red and scarlet, each in complete sheet of 12, unused with original gum, almost all stamps unmounted mint, very fine

1 anna dull red tied to double rate cover with adjacent cds. of 12.8.1905 (late use after receipt of the second Jaipur issue in December 1904 that was printed by Perkins Bacon); the cover roughly opened and tears partly fixed by hinges, still fine

1 anna scarlet, tied by cds. of 14.9.1904 to double rate cover with reverse side coat of arms "DANTA STATE"

1 anna scarlet in vertical strip of 3, tied by numeral cancellation "77" to opened out not quite complete cover; used multiples of the 1 anna stamp, either dull red or scarlet on covers (or part covers) are unusual.

1 anna dull red, 2 copies plud stone III ½ anna ultramarine, the 2 copies of 1 anna tied by a pre-stamp hexagonal registration handstamp, the ½ anna tied by a numeral cancel, to front and reverse of not quite complete envelope which had been previously used; one 1 anna with marginal faults

Stone I, 1 anna dull red  two single copies plus stone III ½ anna deep blue, all tied by Jaipur seal cancel (used mid-summer and the fall of 1904) to homemade cover, possibly registered as the registration rate at the time is believed to be two and a half annas. 

1 anna dull red in horizontal pair in combination with Perkins Bacon ½ anna blue tied by numeral cancel "99" to small possibly registered envelope; the ½ anna 2 pinholes and one 1 anna marginal nick, otherwise fine; a scarce franking

2 annas green, imperforated proof, block of 4 from the lower left sheet corner on ungummed paper, very fine, certificate ISES (2021)

2 annas emerald-green, complete sheet of 12 with reversed "1" in plate number "12", unused with original gum, most stamps unmounted mint

2 annas emerald-green, 1 anna dull red (2 copies) and ½ anna plate III deep blue, tied by Jaipur seal cancel to registered envelope, overfranked by 1 anna for unknown reason; attractive and rare, certificate ISES (2021)
