1870/71, Bordeaux 1 c., report 2, block of 4, good margins, cancelled "BIARRITS 16 FEVR:71", crease between the stamps only, fine
1870/71: Bordeux issue 10 c. bistre (report 1), 10 c. blue (type III, report 2), and huge margined 40 c. orange all used on small envelope with original contents written by a sailor on U.S.S. Plymouth written at Ville Franche, mailed from Nice (Feb 13) to Philadelphia, USA via London (Feb 22). Very rare three colour Bordeuax issue usage, also note the time taken between Nice and London due to the turbulent state of Paris just after the Siege- usually a two day journey, this cover taking nine days. '2 Cents' in red at left applied on arrival; 20 c. with small marginal repair. A very scarce and attractive cover. Signed Calves. Cert. Vachant (2010).
1870/71: Bordeaux issue 20 c. blue (Type III, report 2) just touched at right, large margined 40 c. orange and 80 c. carmine on rose all used on 1871 registered cover to Nantes, tied by 3176, gros chiffres of Rocheservière (Vendée) with cds at left (April 23). Straight line CHARGÈ below in red and endorsed as containing 'Milles Francs' at top in manuscript. Red rate box on reverse with Nantes arrivale cds and forwarded on same day to Aigrefeuille. One flap missing and re-inforced sensibly on reverse, a splendid and rare three colour franking from this elusive issue. Signed Baudot, Calves. Cert. Vachat (2010)
