The first issue of Chile was issued on July 1 1853, a Friday. This is the earliest recorded use of a Colon stamp on letter and virtually the 'First day cover' of Chilean philately. 5 c. red-brown on blued paper, vertical pair, together with 10 c. deep bright blue on yellowish paper, all with ample to mostly large margins, the pair with part of adjoining stamp at base, tied by bright red target cancels, crosswise applied on the pair, with adjacent red straight-line "COPIAPO" to lettersheet to Cordoba, Argentina, . The paper of the entire partly slightly weak in the folds, otherwise very fine and fresh. A beautiful and very rare letter.
