Black machine overprints on 1923 issue: United States, 5c-1p. and 20c. grey with "R" overprint with additional franking tied by special 6-line cachet "Vuelo NEW YORK - BOGOTA Aereoplano "RECAURTE"..." to Bogota, this flight was carried out by Capt. Mendez, one passenger and 25 covers carrying his signature on front. Captain Mendez struck a wave on landing in Canal Zone and damaged a wing. After necessary repairs were made, the pilots continued to Cartagena, Barranquilla and Girardot, where the plane crashed again. They finally reached Bogota in January, 1929. Of the 25 covers transported only a few are known, despite some soiling a attractive and very rare cover
