1861, NORTH BRITON: Prepaid envelope from "QUEBEC NO 1 1861" with straight-line "6d Paid 7½Cy" to New Orleans, sent via Liverpool to beat the Civil War blockade,departured from Quebec but wrecked on the Mingan Islands in Labrador during a storm on 5th November with total loss but no casualties. Put on the following steamship "Anglo Saxon" and arrived Liverpool 23rd November. Transferred to "Africa", some wear as to be expected, the only known cover from this wreck.















































2 Schilling graublau mit sauber auf- und nebengesetztem DKr. "ALTONA 9 11 67" auf Briefkuvert nach Nyborg in Dänemark. Bei postseitiger Kontrolle fiel der Brief in die 2.Gewichtsstufe, daher Rahmenstempel "Unzureichend frankirt" angebracht und taxiert mit "10" dänischen Skilingen. Das Kuvert durch Öffnung fehlerhaft und unfrisch.
½ Groschen orange, farbfrisch, deutlich geprägt und gut gezähnt in Mischfrankatur mit Ausgabe 1875 25 Pfennige lilabraun je mit klarem EKr. “WEIMAR 26.9.75” als tarifgerechte 30 Pfennig-Frankatur auf Wertbrief über 150 Mark nach Nordhausen mit Ausgabe-Stempel. Der Umschlag mit rückseitig fünf kompletten Lacksiegeln hat links ein Aufnadelloch, die Marken sind in einwandfreier Erhaltung. Eine dekorative und seltene Mischfrankatur mit der 25 Pfennig-Wertstufe, Fotoattest Krug BPP (2025)

PAID JY 4 62" alongside, further red "1"d colonial rate, some negligible crease from edge of interior lettersheet (removed), minor edge wear, small affixed lot label, a very fine and rare, colourful 1861 double franking to Cape of Good Hope, certificate PF (2007)

"CHICAGO JUL 30 1862" to envelope to Brussels, franked with 21 cents, the rate by American Packet to Belgium via British open mail, the post office did not recognize that this rate had been superseded 18 month earlier, charged with "2" decimes due, backflap missing, short and/or toned perfs, still and attractive entire
2 Schilling grauultramarin in Mischfrankatur mit Inschrift auf weißem Grund, 4 Schilling braunocker und SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN 1¼ Schilling grün im waagerechten 3er-Streifen (rückseitig geklebt), mit Rahmenstempel "NEUSTADT IN HOLSTEIN 6 1 67", auf Paketbegleitbrief (zur Darstellung der Frankatur unten umgefaltet), mit rotem Paketzettel, nach Zismar. Im Briefpapier unauffällige Faltungen außerhalb der Frankatur sowie kleiner hinterklebter Einriß, sonst gute Erhaltung. Eine attraktive Mischfrankatur dreier verschiedener Ausgaben. 2 Groschen grauultramarin, farbfrisch, gut geprägt und gut gezähnt in Mischfrankatur mit Ausgabe 1875 10 Pfennige lilarot und 50 Pfennige schwarzgrau je mit Rahmenstempel “DRESDEN VIII 6.4.75” als tarifgerechte 80 Pfennig-Frankatur auf R-Faltbrief der 2. Gewichtsstufe mit frühem R-Zettel “Eingeschrieben No.” und rotem Handstempel “PD” nach Paris. Der Faltbrief mit wenigen Stockflecken in der waagerechten Faltung, davon ist die 10 Pfennige im Rand betroffen, ansonsten in guter Gesamterhaltung. in dieser Kombination eine äußerst seltene Mischfrankatur mit der seltenen 50 Pfennige schwarzgrau, Fotoatteste Hennies BPP (1984) und Wiegand BPP (2024)
